Employment Information

The employment application may be filled out online, or printed out and faxed to 605-274-2264 or mailed to Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc., 8109 S. Brett Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57108. Applicants for employment and employees at Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. shall meet the following minimum standards:

1. All employees of Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. must be 18 years old.
2. Appplicants may be required to submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. After employment commences, all employees must remain drug free and are subject to random drug testing. Any employee who appears to be under the influence of alchohol, illegal drug or controlled substance use while at work will be subject to discipline and/or termination.
3. Pre-existing injuries: any applicant receiving worker's compensation MUST report this information to Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. and obtain a written release from the attending physician allowing you to work at Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. is not responsible for any preexisting injuries.
4. Every applicant must be a citizen of the United States or be legal to work in the United States. All applicants must verify that they satisfy this requirement by completing the I9 form and providing a valid Driver's License or Photo ID, and the original certified Birth Certificate or Social Security Card.
5. Applicants with their own transportation to and from the job site shall keep, maintain and provide Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. evidence of personal automobile insurance coverage.
6. All employees are required to take and pass within 90 days the Electrical Hazards Awareness Program or EHAP. All employees are required to attend within 90 days CPR/First Aide.
7. All employees will be required to sign an authorization for release so that Jacobsen Tree Experts, Inc. may obtain a history of your driving record.

Position Title: Groundlaborer

Position Summary: Individuals in this entry-level position assist in clearing trees and brush and work around power lines. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions, year round.

Responsibilities:

1. Operates chainsaws and handsaws to cut trees, limbs and brush from the ground.
2. Drags and stacks trees, limbs and brush.
3. Operates chipper.
4. Prepares jobsite for proper traffic control layout.
5. Learns how to operate the controls and outriggers of the aerial bucket truck.
6. Learns to tie knots and learns their use of the job.
7. Understands, follows and promotes all company safety procedures and policies.
8. Inspects and performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs of assigned tools and equipment.
9. Communicates orally and in writing with trimmer, general foreman, property owners and customers.
10. Completes all other duties customarily associated with such a position assigned.
11. Employees are expected to put forth maximum effort and initiative toward the performance of their jobs.

Qualifications:

1. Possess a valid Class D driver's license.
2. Have reliable transportation and current automobile insurance coverage.
3. Must be able to travel and stay overnight at the companies expense.

Physical Requirements:

1. Standing: Frequently on rough, uneven terrain.
2. Walking: Frequently on rough, uneven terrain.
3. Sitting: Occasionally, driving to and from work sites.
4. Lifting/Carrying: Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs.
5. Twisting, Pushing, Pulling: Frequently drags trees, limbs and brush.
6. Climbing/Balancing: Occasionally walks on felled trees and aerial lift trucks.
7. Kneeling and Crawling: Occasionally performs maintenance on equipment.
8. Communication: Frequently communicates with crewmembers, supervisors and customers.
9. Hearing: Frequently listens to supervisors and customers in extremely noisy conditions.
10. Visual Ability: Frequently inspects worksite for safety hazards and workmanship.
11. Bending: Frequently operates chainsaws, chips brush and moves logs.
12. Gripping/Grasping: Frequently grips pole saws, tree limbs, and chainsaws.

Environmental Conditions:

1. Exposure to Extreme Cold, Extreme Heat and Precipitation: Frequently, all work is done outdoors.
2. Low Visibility: Occasionally
3. Extreme Noise: Frequently performs work around chainsaws and chippers.
4. Moving Parts: Frequently works around machinery and aerial trucks.
5. Electric Shock: Occasionally works around overhead high voltage electrical wires.
